How much does rehab cost in Switzerland?

Rehab in Switzerland ranges from insurance-covered stays in listed clinics to one-client residences with published prices from CHF 110,000 per week. Most private clinics quote individually after an assessment, because programme length, medical complexity and accommodation vary widely.

The short answer

Each clinic page on this site links the source of its price.

  • Listed clinics for Swiss residents: basic insurance pays for the general ward, minus your deductible, a 10% co-payment and CHF 15 per hospital day (Fedlex: KVV)
  • Boutique residential clinics: from CHF 60,000 per week at Clinic Les Alpes (Clinic Les Alpes, 2026)
  • One-client residences: CHF 110,000 per week at Paracelsus Recovery (Paracelsus Recovery, 2026) and from CHF 116,000 per week at CALDA Clinic (CALDA Clinic, 2026)
  • Private villa programmes: from about CHF 117,300 per week reported for The Kusnacht Practice (Recovery.com, 2026)

What drives the price

The biggest cost drivers are staff ratio, accommodation and programme length. Paracelsus Recovery, for example, assigns a team of more than fifteen specialists to one client (Paracelsus Recovery, 2026). Our guide to luxury rehab vs standard rehab explains when that level of staffing is worth it.

Length of stay multiplies every weekly price. Most people with addiction need at least 3 months in treatment to significantly reduce or stop use (NIDA, 2018). The average inpatient stay in Swiss psychiatric care was 35.1 days in 2024 (Obsan, 2024).

  • Staff-to-client ratio
  • Private residence or clinic room
  • Medical complexity, such as detox or dual diagnosis
  • Length of stay
  • Aftercare and travelling counsellors
  • Family programme and accommodation

Does insurance pay?

Swiss basic health insurance pays for inpatient treatment only in hospitals on a cantonal hospital list (Fedlex: KVG Art. 39). It covers a stay at the standard of the general ward (Fedlex: KVG Art. 25).

You still share the costs. The standard deductible is CHF 300 a year. The 10% co-payment is capped at CHF 700 a year for adults. Adults also pay CHF 15 per hospital day (Fedlex: KVV).

Supplementary insurance may contribute to private or semi-private ward comfort, depending on the policy. International clients sometimes get partial cover from global health plans. One-client luxury programmes are almost always self-paid. We can check your policy and shortlist clinics that match your budget, free and confidential.

The wider cost of addiction

Addiction caused social costs of CHF 7.86 billion in Switzerland in 2017 (Obsan, 2017). Health care spending made up the largest share, at 49%. Problematic alcohol use alone costs Swiss society about CHF 2.8 billion a year (FOPH, 2025).

For an individual, the cost of treatment is best weighed against the cost of continued use to health, work and family. Our guide on how to choose a rehab clinic helps you judge clinical value for money.
